CCCL secures highway stabilisation contract, Jamaica

Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) has secured a deal to supply cement for use in stabilisation of a 46km stretch of the north-south leg of Highway 2000, which is currently under construction. Cemex executive Alejandro Vares has been appointed general manager of Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL), replacing incumbent head Anthony Haynes, effective 4 May 2015. Vares will leave his position as Interim Country Manager of Cemex Costa Rica to join the Rockfort, Kingston-based cement producer, Caribbean Cement said in a press release. Caribbean Cement Co returns to pretax profit

Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) posted a pretax profits of $255m compared to a loss of $3m the previous year. The company said its performance was assisted by a new record year for sales which climbed from $12bn to $14.3bn. Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) has commenced supply of a new 240,000t clinker order to Venezuela. The US$20.5m contract will run over an 18-month period and help boost export revenue from the Rockfort plant. The new order from Caracas extends a previous agreement that saw CCCL ship 100,000t of clinker between December 2013 and April 2014 in a US$8.5m deal. Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL), the Jamaican subsidiary of Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL), achieved a 28 per cent increase in revenue for the first half of the year due to improved pricing and increased exports. Caribbean Cement Co Ltd (CCCL) is seeking to improve the usage of cement in the construction of roads with plans to double sales to this segment. The government of Jamaica has given Carib Cement Co a cheque worth US$1.69m as part payment for the provision of clinker to Venezuela under the Trade Compensation Mechanism of the PetroCaribe Agreement. Caribbean Cement Company sent its first clinker consignment to Corporación Socialista del Cemento in Venezuela yesterday. Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) is set to increase cement prices for the third time in 2013, this time due to the depreciation of the Jamaican dollar against the US dollar. In a notice to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, CCCL said that as of 8 July 2013, the price of a bag of Carib Cement OPC will be increased to JMD945.48 (US$9.38), while a bag of Carib Cement Plus will sell for JMD914.53.
