Advanced vertical milling

Published 28 January 2014

Due to evolving market requirements and trends towards higher capacities, new orders for grinding systems with high throughput rates and tailor-made cement qualities have become prerequisites. To meet this challenge, Gebr Pfeiffer has developed trendsetting mill and drive concepts for the cement industry. With supply of the world’s largest vertical roller mill (VRM) for Holcim Brasil’s Barroso works in progress, the German milling specialist shares operational experiences with recent projects for Jaypee Cement (India) and Ciments de Gabès (Tunisia). Today, Gebr Pfeiffer offers three concepts of vertical mills to the cement industry, but a customer’s choice mainly depends on the capacity needed. With table diameters of less than 5m or 6m, an MPS mill with a conventional drive is the most suitable solution. For larger diameters, the MVR mill with four or six grinding rollers and a conventional drive is used. For applications where the conventional drive is no longer the optimum solution, the MultiDrive® is used with the MVR mill.
