Cemtech Conferences and Exhibitions, organised by ICR, successfully held its
annual Middle East meeting between 31st March - 3rd April 2007 in Abu
Dhabi, the UAE's largest and richest emirate. With some 250 delegates in
attendance from over 40 countries, this timely event gave attendees the
opportunity to update on regional markets and technological developments while
also providing excellent networking opportunities in the heart of one of the
cement industry's most dynamic and exciting regions.
The rapidly expanding markets of the Middle East, where the oil-fueled
consumption boom has resulted in an unprecedented growth in regional cement
consumption, was one of the hottest topics of debate.
Cement production technology provided the other main focus of the conference,
which gave a platform for experts to share their expertise on the very latest
industry advances of the hottest topics of debate.
Running adjacently to the conference, a 40-stand international exhibition area
gave some of the cement industry's leading suppliers the opportunity to showcase
the best in equipment and services to the sector and provided an additional
platform for delegates to network and create new alliances.
As regular Cemtech attendees have come to expect, hospitality levels were at
their highest. Along with dinners and receptions providing a unique blend of
traditional Arabian hospitality and modern luxury, spouses were given the
opportunity of visiting neighbouing Dubai to enjoy the city's extensive shopping
facilities and indulge in some retail therapy. And proceedings were concluded in
true style during the Cemtech farewell dinner as delegates were treated to an
evening of fine dining and entertainment at the majestic and enchanting Emirates
Palace.
The last day of the meeting included visits by Cemtech delegates both to the
Union Cement Company in Ras Al Khaimah, and to the new clinker grinding unit at
Al Ain.
The recently completed 10,000tpd Union Cement plant is not only the UAE's
largest single cement production line, but also the first of its kind to be
built using Chinese technology outside of China.
Meanwhile, the Al Ain grinding plant is currently being set up by the Nael & Bin
Harmel Group, one of the UAE's leading construction and building material
conglomerates. Cemtech delegates had a sneak preview of the AED100m Dirham
plant before it becomes operational in May 2007, with equipment suppliers CEMAG
of Germany on hand to provide a technical overview of the facility.
