A shake-up in its cement facilities means PPC Zimbabwe expects to be producing 1.5Mta of cement by this time next year, compared to its current 1.1Mta. At the heart of its expansion plans is a new, US$86m plant in Msasa, Harare, which is due to be operational by mid-2016. The new plant is expected to help PPC take advantage of the expected boom in construction activity in the country, driven by the government’s renewed focus on infrastructure, most notably in housing and road projects. A second phase is also in the pipeline, which will see the construction of a clinker plant at the site, subject to securing a reliable source of limestone.
