Pozzolan addition directly into Cement Mill

Hello everyone,

The cement plant in which i operate clinker, gypsum and pozzolan are all pre-ground in a roll press and then finsh ground in a ball mill. Recently i have been approached to add the pozzolan directly into the ball mill instead of it being pre-ground. Does anyone have an experience with this operation?

This can work OK if the pozzolan is fine. To get useful answers you need to indicated what range of pozzolan additions are you considering and what its typical particle size distribution is. Also, is the finish ball mill operating in open circuit or closed.

Average size of the pozzolan used is 25.4 mm (1 inch) and the ball mill is closed circuit. if pozzolan is to be added directly into the ball mill then the mill feed will consist of pre-ground material from the roll press and raw pozzolan.
