Lebanon

Following another round of conflict, the Lebanese cement market should be in for good times as the country rebuilds and repairs. After falling back in 2004, short-term domestic consumption is likely to bounce back. In addition the Syrian and Iraqi markets are offering promise as the local cement industry there struggles with undercapacity and conflict. However, as they bring new capacity online or stabilise and restart cement production, these opportunities should prove to be only short-term and with Lebanon's perennial overcapacity in cement production, a glut in the Lebanese supply looms on the horizon.
