04 January 2012

The construction of Dangote Cement’s plant in Masaiti district on the Copperbelt in Zambia is on course and a consignment of equipment will arrive in the country in the next 10 days, local press reports.

Dangote logistics manager, Kampewa Nundwe, said that the Chinese contractor was already on site and works were going smoothly.

Mr Nundwe said most of the clearing on site had already been done by the contractor and construction was expected to commence as soon as the equipment arrives in the country.

He said the container carrying equipment was at the port in Beira and was expected in the country in 10 days.

"So the actual construction of the plant will commence as soon as equipment arrives in the country this month," Mr Nundwe said.

The plant is expected to produce 1.5Mta of cement when it reaches full capacity by 2013.
