Holcim Ecuador prepares for Phase 2 expansion

Holcim Ecuador prepares for Phase 2 expansion
12 December 2011

The Ecuadorean unit of Holcim plans to start in late 2012 the second phase of an expansion project at its cement plant in Guayaquil, the company said Friday. The second phase will require an investment of nearly US$400m.

Holcim Ecuador (HLC.GU) started construction of the first phase of the expansion in early 2010 with an investment of US$120m, and whose inauguration will take place in the first quarter of 2012, the company said. Annual production will increase from 3.5Mt to 5.4Mt.

Currently, Holcim Ecuador is finalising the engineering studies for the third clinker production line, where construction is expected to start in December 2012.

The construction of the third clinker production line will ensure the availability of raw materials for cement production, to cover high demand periods for the product, the company said in a statement. The project will implement a 5000tpd kiln.
