Pakistan July-November sales expected to remain flat
08 December 2011

Total Pakistan cement dispatches are likely to remain flat at 12.42Mt during the first five months (July-November) of the current financial year compared to 12.54Mt in the corresponding period last year.

According to industry sources, domestic sales improved slightly to 8.67Mt in the five month period compared to 8.62Mt in the same period of the previous fiscal. Exports, however, are expected to register a four per cent decline to 3.75Mt as demand from the Middle East has slowed due to subdued economic activity.

In November alone, total cement dispatches are expected to decline 12 per cent YoY to 2.12Mt mainly driven by a 14 per cent decline in exports to 0.59Mt compared to 0.68Mt in the same period last year.

Domestic dispatches, due to a slowdown in construction activity in northern Pakistan, were down by 11 per cent to 1.53Mt compared to 1.73Mt in November 2010. In October 2011, sales were2.94Mt compared to 2.92Mt in the same period last year (up 0.7 per cent).
