Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for August 2011 were 7.9Mt. This was 8% higher than shipments in August 2010. Shipments for the year through August were 46.7Mt, slightly higher than those of the same period in 2010.

The leading producing States in August were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in descending order and accounted for about 42% of the total production.

The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Ohio, Florida, and Illinois, in descending order) received about 34% of the August total shipments.

Clinker production totaled 5.7Mt in August, slightly higher than the output in August 2010. Production for the year through August was 39.9 Mt, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. The leading clinker-producing States in August were Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama, and Pennsylvania, in descending order.

Data for clinker imports into the Seattle and possibly the Detroit customs districts are likely incomplete owing to some shipments arriving overland from Canada on an informal entry basis. August 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 748,000t were down by 5% from those in August 2010.

Imports for the year totaled 4.23Mt, down by about 6% from those for the year through August 2010.
