Holcim to start production at Garadagh plant by year-end

Holcim has completed work on the expansion and efficiency increases at the Garadagh Cement’s plant in Azerbaijan in which it owns a majority stake.

Raoul Waldburger, CEO of Garadagh, said yesterday that the EUR300m investment project, is drawing to an end: “The new kiln at Garadagh Cement will start clinker production by the end of the year,” Mr Waldburger.

Construction work on the kiln was expected to be finished by 30 June 11 and testing output by the end of the year. Work is being carried out by CBI Construction, part of the Sinoma Group.

Following the upgrade from wet to dry-process technology, clinker capacity at the plant will increase from 2616tpd to 4000tpd (or 1.3Mta to 1.7Mta).

The plant, which is situated 35km from the Azerbaijan capital of Baku, is the sole integrated cement facility in the country.
