Lafarge announces Ravena cut backs, USA
27 October 2011

John Reagan, Environmental Manager for the Lafarge Cement Plant in Ravena announced Thursday that layoff notices had gone out earlier in the day to 39 employees.

Thirty-six of the 39 were hourly employees, three were salaried and the company will not fill several vacant salaried positions.

The layoffs are effective immediately and followed union contract seniority rules.

That leaves the plant with roughly 130 to 135 workers. To further save costs the plant will operate at 50 per cent utilisation and likely shut down one of its two kilns.
