Iran cement production rises 16%

Iran’s cement production hit 35.2Mt in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21), according to the secretary of the Iranian Cement Industry Employers’ Union.

IRNA news agency quoted Mohammad Hassan Pourkhalil as saying that the country’s cement production increased around 16.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Clinker production in the last six months reached 33.8Mt, again up 16 per cent.

Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari previously said that the country’s current cement production capacity stands at 74Mt.

Ghazanfari added that with the implementation of new projects the figure will reach 110Mt by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).
