New line boosts Oman Cement output
03 October 2011

A new clinker line installed by Oman Cement Company is assisting the company in meeting high demand for cement as its two older lines had to be shut down for maintenance and other minor operational issues. Clinker line No 3 was instrumental in raising clinker production to 677,135t in first-half 2011 thanks to its contribution of 191,840t.

In the corresponding period of 2010, Oman Cement produced 565,160t from its original two lines which have been operational for several years. The third kiln has a production capacity of 4000tpd.

Cement production during the January-June period was 950,553t, 3.9 per cent higher than the same period of 2010.

Oman Cement Company, expecting strong demand to continue, has signed contracts for the upgrade of old pollution control equipment and capacity upgrade of kiln No 1 at a cost of OMR14.27m (US$37.05m).

The company also has plans to increase its cement grinding capacity, tenders for which will be issued in the fourth quarter.
