Cemex Latvia plans to produce and sell more than 1Mt of cement in 2011, the company’s Commercial Director Maris Gruznins told local press.

Mr Gruznins  said that this has been made possible as the company’s new line at its Broceni works has been operating at full capacity for about a year now.

"In 2010 we sold slightly more than 900,000t of cement, while this year it could be over a 1Mt," he said.

Cemex completed the installation of a modern kiln line at the Broceni works in 2009, raising clinker capacity from 0.4Mta to 1.15Mta and further investments at the plant have increased grinding capacity to 1.6Mta – implying a 1Mta capacity increase.

Cemex exports 80% of its production to the other Baltic States, Finland, Russia and Belarus. In 2010, the amount of export quadrupled, compared to the previous year.

"We sell about 20% of the production on the local market, which provides for 70 to 75% of the Latvian market consumption," said Gruznins.
