11 July 2011

Preliminary data and market estimates published by Sindicato Nacional da Industria do Cimento (SNIC) indicate that cement sales in the Brazilian cement market reached 30Mt in 1H11, up 7.8 per cent on the same period of 2010.

In June 20111, alone, 5.4Mt of cement was sold, which represents an increase of 11.5 per cent over the same month last year.

Cumulative sales in the last 12 months (July 2010-June 2011) reached 61.3Mt, up 11 per cent over the July 2009-June 2010 period.

Local cement demand has been increasing on the back of a boom in residential and commercial construction, along with the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The modernisation of the Brazilian infrastructure, such as ports, airports, roads, railways and power plants will continue to drive this increased demand.
