In its latest trading statement, Steppe Cement shows that in the 1H11, it sold 601,099t of cement for KZT6286m (US$43.2m), compared with 523,156t of cement for KZT4694m in the 1H10. This represents an increase of 15% in volume and 34% in value compared to the same period in 2010.

The average price for delivered cement was KZT10,458/t (ex VAT) in the current period compared with KZT8972/t in 1H2010. Ex-factory price in 1H11 stood at KZT8777/t compared with KZT7755/t in the corresponding period of 2010. The volume of cement sales in Kazakhstan increased by about 4.3% during this time while the share of imported cement dropped from 23% to 17%.

The market share of Steppe Cement increased to 21.2% in the 1H11 from 19.8% in the 1H10. Steppe Cement estimates Kazakhstan’s cement market to be about 6.2Mt for 2011, representing an increase of 9% from 2010.
