Bahrain ‘meeting cement requirements’
14 June 2011

Bahrain is supplying the local construction market with 6750tpd of cement to meet its growing needs, and reports of a shortage in the kingdom were exaggerated, said a senior government official.

Of this, 4,750tpd is imported while the remaining is produced locally, an Industry and Commerce Ministry spokesman said.

"Weekly cement supplies average 33,000t, about 3,000t more than requirement," he added.

He was responding to reports claiming that Bahrain is hit by cement shortage. He described them as "a bit exaggerated".

Meanwhile, packed cement sold to the local market yesterday (June 13) increased by 12,000 sacks. –
