Taiwan Cement targets 55Mta of output in China

After acquiring the cement subsidiary of Prosperity International Holding last year, the Taiwan Cement Group aims to produce in China 55Mt this year, and expects to acquire another cement plant soon, somewhere in southern China in the second half of this year. 



On
31 May, while inaugurating a new plant in Anshun, Guizhou province, China, Taiwan Cement Group chairman Leslie Koo said the group will produce 48Mt of cement in China this year. 

At the end of 2010, Taiwan Cement’s capacity totaled 40.4Mta in China, which will rise by 8Mta with the opening of three new plants in Guizhou and Sichuan provinces.



In line with China government`s promotion of mergers and acquisitions to boost cement production, Taiwan Cement Group is eagerly acquiring new plants and aiming to achieve capacities reaching 7Mt this year. 

In March this year, Taiwan Cement acquired 1.2Mt of capacity from Gangan Cement Co. 

An industry insider noted Taiwan Cement will focus on southern China to acquire new capacities by the end of this year.
