Construction of the Diamer Bhasha Dam, a proposed dam in the Northern Areas of Pakistan on the River Indus, will boost Pakistan cement sector growth as it is expected to consume approximately 5Mta.

Officials from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) of Pakistan have revealed that China will most likely fund the bulk of project costs, as well as provide 17,000 workers from the Three Gorges Dam Project. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has formally informed Pakistan that it was ready to provide US$4.5bn for the construction of the dam.

Fauji Cement will tend to benefit the most. This is because it has a greater proximity to the area of construction and also owing to the fact that it has a history of receiving orders from Chinese undertakings.
