Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for March 2011 were 5.4Mt, slightly lower than shipments in March 2010. Shipments for the year through March were about 12.7Mt, about 3% higher than those of the same period in 2010.

The leading producing states in March were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, in descending order) received about 44% of the March total shipments. 

Clinker production totaled 4.9Mt in March, nearly 12% higher than the output in March 2010. Production for the year through March was about 11.8 Mt, essentially unchanged from that for the same period in 2010. The leading clinker-producing States in March were Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama, and Florida, in descending order; these States’ share of the U.S. total is withheld to protect company proprietary data.

March 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 406,000t were nearly 33% higher than imports in March 2010. Imports for the year totaled 963,000t, down by about 7% from those through March 2010
