Lafarge and Strabag will start production of a EUR270m cement plant, under construction in Kiralyegyhaza (southwest Hungary), at the end of June, Jozsef Kovari, managing director of project company Nostra Cement, said at a press conference at the plant on Thursday.

The companies started building the plant in September 2007, Mr Kovari said. The plant’s equipment will be tested in a week and test operation will start afterward, he added.

The plant is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 15.

Lafarge acquired the Kiralyegyhaza works from Strabag in early 2010. The new works will have clinker and cement capacities of 0.65Mta and almost 1Mta, respectively. Output is expected to supply mainly the Hungarian and Slovak markets.
