17 May 2011

José Antonio Primo, CEO of Lafarge Cementos, and Juan Carlos del Olmo, secretary general of WWF Spain, have signed the renewal of the Red Ibérica de Comercio Forestal (Iberian Forest and Trade Network – IFTN).

With the new three-year agreement, Lafarge endorses the objectives of WWF’s IFTN initiative: promoting informed and responsible purchasing of forest products and their legal trade, improve the management of the world’s forests and support credible forest certification.

The extension of the agreement, originally put in place in 2007, is seen as strengthening the commitment of the cement producer to responsible forest management.

"At Lafarge Cement we always make our operations are carried out with the utmost respect for the environment. The renewal of our partnership with WWF allows us to continue promoting responsible forest management and extend our commitment to protecting the environment, "said Jose Antonio Primo.

Last year, Lafarge Cementos used nearly 6m paper bags and more than 8000 wooden pallets with the Forest Stewardship Council label, which guarantees that the raw materials of the manufactured products come from forests that are managed in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner.
