19 April 2011

Construction of the Pokot Cement factory in Kenya has failed to start, some eight month since Prime Minister Raila Odinga commissioned the project.

Raila Odinga presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the factory at Ortum in West Pokot in July last year and since then no construction work has taken place.

The factory is to be established  by investors from the Cemtech and Sanghi group of India who have already received all licences from the government and other relevant authorities to proceed with the project.

Chief Executive of Cemtech Limited Rajesh Kumar Rawal confirmed that they had finalised all plans to construct the cement factory which is expected to produce more than 1.2Mta of cement.
