South African monthly sales down 2.1%
11 April 2011

Cement sales in South Africa during March 2011 were down 2.1 per cent month-on-month, data from the South African Cement and Concrete Institute showed. Year-to-date (Jan-March 2011) sales were 2.44Mt, 4.3 per cent  lower than the same period in 2010.

The moving annual total (12 months to March 2011) of South African sales was 10.76Mt, 6.3 per cent down YoY.

March 2011 had the same amount of sales days to March 2010, however, a large YoY decrease is expected for April as many building contractors will have a mini-shutdown between Good Friday (April 22) and Workers’ Day (May 2), similar to their December closure, but May should see an increase.
