Indian producers sees March sales rise
04 April 2011

Some of India’s leading cement producers have reported a rise in shipments for March 2011 however, the domestic industry is unlikely to beat growth figures registered in February.

ACC’s shipments rose 12.4 per cent to 2.18Mt in March 2011 over March 2010. Production rose to 2.19Mt from 1.94Mt. Ambuja Cements’ cement shipments were up 6.6 per cent to 2.05Mt during the same period. Production, meanwhile, increased to 1.95Mt from 1.92Mt. UltraTech Cement’s cement shipments increased 2.2% to 3.78Mt and production was up by 2.4 per cent to 3.75Mt. Jaiprakash Associates’ cement shipments rose 22 per cent to 1.56Mt in March 2011 over March 2010.

However, sales for March signal that the overall growth for the industry during the month may not accelerate over figures registered in February when they grew 7.2 per cent overall. The Cement Manufacturers’ Association will issue overall statistics next week.
