Angolan government to set quotas for cement imports
09 March 2011

Cement imports in Angola will have legally set limits the secretary of state for Industry, Kiala Gabriel said cited by state daily newspaper, Jornal de Angola.

Noting that the government had set up a cement commission that was preparing a legal diploma to regulate import quotas, the secretary of state said: “this is not exactly protection of domestic production, because the market is for all economic agents, but will allow national production to also serve as a source of raw materials and finished products.”

Angola currently has a cement deficit of around 4.2Mta but according to Gabriel national cement production is expected to rise by 2013 or 2015, once the cement plants in Kwanza Sul province, Bengo (Bom Jesus) and Benguela start operating.
