Angola: Nova Cimangola to produce 1.8Mt of cement as of April
08 March 2011

Angolan cement company Nova Cimangola is set to produce, as of April, 1.8Mta of cement, as compared to current production of 1.2Mt, said Angola’s secretary of state for Industry, Kiala Ngone Gabriel Friday in Luanda.

"The new grinding unit that the company is building will start operating soon, which will make it possible to increase production,” said the secretary of state at the end of a visit to the company. The US$22m grinding unit uses equipment purchased from Austria and Germany.

Mr Gabriel noted that he discussed with the factory’s board of directors during his visit issues related to the market as well as the situation of the occupation by the population of some exploration areas for raw materials (lime and clay).

These discussions included the fact that some imported cement is put on the Angolan market at much lower prices than those offered by Nova Cimangola, and the secretary of state said that he would put the problem to an inter-ministerial commission for re-launching the manufacturing sector.

Angola currently has a cement deficit of 4.2Mta and Mr Gabriel said that according to projections, Angola would meet demand by 2015 at the latest, and two years later it would be expected to be producing 12Mt, which is over and above the market’s needs.
