Taiheiyo Cement Phils Inc (TCPI) received an award for outstanding practices in sustainable development from the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) in a recent summit in Makati City.

In a press statement, TCPI said it received the award along with three other companies during the FPI’s annual summit, which is aimed at instilling corporate discipline among companies as part of efforts toward achieving sustainable development for the country.

FPI chairman Jesus Lim Arranza cited TCPI for its strict compliance on policies promoting waste management, reduction of industrial waste and effluent discharge and the use of alternative fuels for their kiln. He also noted the company’s ban on the use of plastics within company premises.

FPI said TCPI also installed a wastewater recycling system and conducted annual cleanups of waterways in San Fernando town, Cebu and its neighboring communities. TCPI said they tap their own employees to work with volunteer groups in conducting these cleanups.

It said many of their programs are tied to upholding environmental concerns that resulted in improved working conditions, enhanced productivity and good health and safety among employees.
