Vietnam Cong Thanh Cement to build 600MW power plant

Cong Thanh Joint Stock Company will start building a 600MW coal-fired power plant in the central province of Thanh Hoa on March 5, Chairman Nguyen Cong Ly said.

The plant with total investment of US$400m is slated for completion after 30 months of construction, the Saigon Times Daily newspaper reported.

The facility is expected to generate electricity to supply for the Nghi Son Economic Zone and industrial parks in northern region.

Vietnam is estimated to face a power shortage of between 3bn kWh and 4bn kWh this year.
The country plans to build 90 coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 106,000MW and total investment of US$83bn through 2025.
