US monthly shipments rise 3%

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for November 2010 were 5.8Mt. This was 3% higher than shipments in November 2009.

Year-to-date shipments through November were 65.9Mt, down slightly from those of the same period in 2009. The leading producing states (Texas, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida, in descending order) shipped 42% of the November total. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, in descending order) received about 35% of November’s total shipments.

Clinker production totaled 5.3 Mt in November, about 23% higher than production in November 2009. Production year to date totalled 57Mt, up by about 5% from that for the same period in 2009. The leading clinker-producing states (Missouri, Texas, California, Florida, and Pennsylvania, in descending order) produced about 46% of the November total.

November 2010 imports of cement and clinker of about 471,000t were about 28% lower than imports in November 2009. Imports for the year through November totaled 6.3Mt, down by about 4% from those of the same period in 2009.
