Southern Province Cement to boost power generation

Saudi cement producer Southern Province Cement (SPC), said yesterday in a bourse statement it had awarded a SAR 104m (USD 27.7m) contract to Finnish industrial machinery company Wartsila Oyj Abp for the expansion of the power generating capacity at SPC’s cement plant in Tuhama.

Under the contract, Wartsila will supply and install four diesel generators with a combined generating capacity of 31.6MW.

Earlier in January, SPC said that according to preliminary results its net profit for 2010 had declined by 10.8% YoY to SAR655m.
