Algerian cement production by government-owned plants grew by 7% at the end of October 2010, officials said Thursday at Groupe industriel des ciments d’Algérie (Gica).


State-owned cement companies produced 10Mt between Jan-October 2010, compared to 9.47Mt in the same period of 2009. With total production of 11.5Mta, the public sector covers 67% of national output, while the rest is provided by the private sector.

Capacity expansions have been undertaken at the cement plants of Chlef (Oued Sly), Ayn Kebira (Setif) and Beni Saf (Ain Temouchent) for a total additional production of 6Mt. With these expansions, production of all public cement facilities would reach 18Mt from 2012, according to forecasts.
