Vietnam forecast to use 54.5-56Mt of cement in 2011

Vietnam’s cement consumption is forecast to increase to between 54.5Mt and 56Mt next
year, compared to the country’s estimated sum of 49.5Mt and 50Mt in 2010, an official of the
Ministry of Construction said. The ministry will instruct producers nationwide to ensure sufficient cement supplies and maintain stable prices of the products in 2011, Nguyen Tran Nam, MoC deputy minister was cited by local news sources.
 
Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) will be assigned to produce 19.5Mt next year, joint ventures with 17.5Mt, and local cement plants around 19Mt. In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam used 40.4Mt of cement, equalling 80% of the full-year target.
