Lafarge wins Health and Safety award, UK

Cement manufacturer Lafarge Cement picked up five awards at the MPA Health and Safety Best Practice Awards 2010.

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) is the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, lime, mortar and silica sand industries. 



Lafarge Cement won the top prize for the company-wide Clean, Green and Injury Free housekeeping initiative and also commended in the same category with a Certificate of Merit for Cauldon Works’ HazOp risk assessment tool.



The company was also runner-up in the MPA Trophy for Engineering Initiatives for its packer reel support system at the West Thurrock Marine Terminal as well as another Certificate of Merit for Aberthaw Works. 



Dai Morgan, production manager at the Aberthaw Works was presented with an award in special recognition of an individual’s outstanding contribution to safety.



Erdogan Pekenc, Managing Director for Lafarge Cement UK, says: "Health and Safety is the number one priority for Lafarge Cement and I am delighted that we have achieved recognition from the MPA for our commitment and wide ranging activities in this crucial area."
