Polish construction industry cements revival

Polish cement plants have already caught up on losses made during the long winter and they will surely close the fiscal year with a positive result. And it is going to be even better.

The cement industry has sighed with relief. In August, sales were 12 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of 2009 and amounted to 1.7Mt, which is one of many causes for satisfaction.

"After eight months, we have finally succeeded in compensating losses caused by the long and severe winter. Sales of cement are now at the level of 2009," says Jan Deja, head of the Cement Manufacturers Association (SPC).

In the period between January and August inclusive, cement plants sold almost 10Mt of cement, only 1.2 per cent less than in the corresponding period of 2009. As in previous months, it was the construction industry that contributed most to the positive results.
