Siam Cement: most of its halted projects can proceed
02 September 2010

Siam Cement PCL said Friday that most of its industrial projects at a controversial industrial estate can continue following a legal ruling.

The Central Administrative Court Thursday has given the go-ahead for 74 of 76 projects at Map Ta Phut industrial estate to proceed after they were suspended because of environmental and health concerns.

However, one of Siam cements projects--the expansion of a vinyl chloride monomer facility operated by an affiliate--still needs official clearance to proceed. The project will be amended so that it complies with all legal standards, the country’s largest industrial conglomerate by sales said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The other project to remain suspended is the expansion of a ethylene glycol plant by TOC Glycol--a unit of PTT Chemical PCL.
