Thang Long Investment and Trade JSC plans to put into operation Thanh Son cement plant in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa in the third quarter of 2011.

The project in Ngoc Lac district has a total investment of VND1.5trn (US$78.53m), including VND400 billion in the first phase, the Dau tu newspaper reported Friday.

The plant with Chinese Sinoma beign EPC contractor will have a daily capacity of 2,00t of clinker.

The Ministry of Construction forecast Vietnam will face a cement surplus of at least 2Mt this year due to the boom in new cement plants nationwide.

Additional 16 cement plants are likely to be operated this year, raising the nation’s total designed cement production capacity to 65.66Mt, compared to its estimated demand of between 50 and 52Mt.
