St. Marys Cement union and management reach tentative deal
27 July 2010

After a long strike, St. Marys Cement workers could be back on the job soon.

The Canadian Auto Workers has reached a tentative agreement with St. Marys Cement, a subsidiary of Brazilian company Votorantim Cimentos.

Workers at the Bowmanville plant have been on strike for the past five months. The contract dispute was over pensions and a number of concessions, according to a union press release.

The tentative agreement still has to be ratified by the 87 CAW Local 222 members. Voting takes place Thursday, July 29.

Details of the agreement will not be released until after ratification
