22 July 2010

Construction of Ohorongo Cement Namibia’s (OHN) new cement plant near Otavi, Nambia is well on track, according to company officials. Preliminary production is expected to start in December and the plant is expected to be operational by January 2011.

The official inauguration is planned for February 2011, when President of Nambia, Hifikepunye Pohamba, will commission the plant.

The plant will produce approximately 700,000tpa of cement once fully operational. Around 300,000t will serve the domestic market while the remainder is destined for exports to southern Angola, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and western Botswana.

"The timeline of 24 months construction phase can be kept," says Hans Wilhelm Schütte, Managing Director of OHN, a subsidiary of Germany’s Schwenk Group.
