Knut Ulvmoe, managing director of the Dangote Group, on Wednesday said that Nigeria would soon begin exporting cement to countries.

Ulvmoe told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that with the current production trend, the country was likely to start exporting cement by 2011.

He said, ”The nation’s cement production will soon hit about 28Mt from about 12.5Mta.

”There is hope that by 2011, Nigeria will begin to export cement to other countries.’’

According to him, there are many ongoing cement projects in the country that are at various stages of completion.

He said that the projects would inject millions of tonnes of cement into the market.

Ulvmoe said that the initiative of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration to encourage local production of cement had started yielding the desired benefits.

He said, ”The initiative spurred most of the importers like the Dangote Group to invest massively in setting up new cement factories and rehabilitate moribund plants.

“This initiative has resulted in full-scale production of cement in the country.
