Employees of the TCL Group recently contributed TT$62,666.87 towards the Group’s Haiti Relief Programme.

The monetary donations from employees of Trinidad Cement Limited, TCL Guyana Inc and the TCL Group Corporate Office were presented to Habitat for Humanity to assist in that organisation’s rebuilding of earthquake devastated Haiti.

In the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, Habitat for Humanity has been working to meet the needs of Haitians left homeless by this disaster. The organisation is addressing 20,000 shelter solutions as part of its contribution to the rebuilding efforts of Haiti.

In addition to the monetary donations by employees, the TCL Group also embarked on a donations drive, where food items, clothing, mattresses and other non – perishable supplies were collected and shipped to Haiti, over the February – May 2010 period. In the longer term, as the reconstruction programme continues in Haiti, the TCL Group is focusing on providing the relevant technical and social support.

The TCL Group decided to give the funds donated to Habitat for Humanity as the group has an alliance with this organisation since 2004. For the past six years, the TCL Group has donated cement to Habitat for Humanity projects not only in Trinidad and Tobago but also in Guyana, Jamaica and Suriname, with the aim of eradicating substandard housing, as well as developing lives across the region.
