Marquesado quarry project given green light, Spain
04 July 2010

Authorities in Andalusia, Spain, have given the go-ahead for the use of a quarry to supply raw materials for a cement works being built by Cementos del Marquesado.

The quarry is located on 93ha of public forest in the municipality of Valle de Zalabí. As a result, this decision in favour of the quarry is conditional to the restoration of the area’s forested character after the conclusion of the extraction work, as required by an environmental impact statement.

Use of the quarry will enable the cement factory to operate and produce 700,000t of cement, making the area self-sufficient in cement.
