USGS: April shipments rise 8% YoY

Latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) show total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for April 2010 were about 6.5Mt. This was about 8% higher than shipments in April 2009. Year-to-date shipments were about 18.8Mt, down by about 8% from those of the same period in 2009.

The leading producing States (Texas, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, and Alabama, in descending order) shipped 42% of the April total (table 1A). The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, and New York, in descending order) received nearly 36% of April’s total shipments.

Clinker production totalled 5.2Mt, about 11 per cent lower than production in April 2009. Production year-to-date totalled 17Mt, down by seven per cent from that of the same period in 2009. The leading clinker-producing states (Texas, California, Missouri, Alabama and Florida, in descending order) produced about 49% of the April total.
