UP cement market pegged at 22Mt
10 May 2010

The annual cement market in Uttar Pradesh, India, has been pegged at about 22Mt thanks to a large number of infrastructure and housing projects underway, both at the institutional and retail level.

However, almost 75 per cent of local demand in the state is met with imports especially from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, since the total capacity of cement units in UP is only about 6Mt.

The cement demand-supply mismatch in UP is likely to continue in the near future as the demand for cement would continue to outpace capacity additions,” JP Cement senior vice president (marketing) Prem Prakash told Business Standard here.
