High Court reserves order on PIL against Nirma Cement plant

The Gujarat High Court today reserved its order on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by farmers of Mahuva talkua of Bhavnagar opposing the proposed cement plant of Nirma Ltd in their area.

A division bench of Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhaya and Justice Akil Kureshi reserved the order after hearing the arguments of the two parties, the aggrieved farmers and the Nirma Company, over three days.

For the farmers, their lawyer Anand Yagnik submitted that the land given to Nirma for the cement plant was on a water body which was source of fresh water in Mahuva.
