January US cement shipments down 22%

According to recent data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for January 2010 were about 3.4Mt. This was 22% lower than shipments in January 2009. The leading producing states (Texas, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Missouri, in descending order) shipped nearly 48% of the January total.

The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, and New York in descending order) received about 48% of January’s total shipments.

Clinker production totaled 3.8Mt, nearly 18% lower than  production in January 2009. The leading clinker-producing States (Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Alabama in descending order) produced nearly 50% of the January total.
