Lafarge to get Brazilian cement assets

Lafarge to get Brazilian cement assets
24 February 2010

Lafarge said it will receive Brazilian cement assets in exchange for the sale of its 17.28% stake in Cimpor, to Brazilian conglomerate Votorantim.

The terms of payment depend on the outcome of the public takeover bid for Cimpor, Lafarge said.

With these assets, which Lafarge didn’t detail, Lafarge’s annual cement production in Brazil is expected to reach 7Mt.

Lafarge said the acquisition of the assets will have a positive impact on net earnings per share and return on capital employed, or ROCE, from this year.

It should boost Lafarge’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in Brazil by EUR85 million as of 2011 and by more than EUR100 million in 2012.
