The net profit of the country’s third-largest cement maker PT Holcim Indonesia shot up by 217% to Rp896 billion (US$97.4 million) from the previous year on larger sales and foreign exchange gain.

The Indonesian unit of the Swiss-based cement giant Holcim Ltd posted Rp5.9 trillion in sales in 2009, up from Rp5.3 trillion in the previous year.

Demand for cement rose with brisker construction and property industry to follow the economic recovery, the company said in its financial report.

It said it posted Rp372 billion in foreign exchange gain in 2009, as against a foreign exchange loss of Rp 532.03 billion in 2008.
