Gresik posts slight rise in cement sales
26 January 2010

Semen Gresik Group posted a 0.6 per cent rise in sales to 17.76Mt in 2009 from 17.65Mt in the previous year.

A 38.6 per cent decline in exports and interruption in process of production of its subsidiary PT Semen Padang in the quake hit West Sumatra last year caused the lower than expected performance of that company.

The company’s exports fell 38.6 per cent to 616,460t in 2009 on weak demand as a result of the global financial crisis, company secretary Sunardi said.

Its total sales on the domestic market rose 2.9 per cent to 17.14Mt with Semen Padang recording a 7.6 per cent fall in sales to 5.5Mt.

The parent company PT Semen Gresik in Gresik, East Java, recorded a 2 per cent rise in sales to 8.52Mt, and PT Tonasa another subsidiary in South Sulawesi also recorded an increase in sales by 11.8 per cent to 3.67Mt.
